UNCOVER THE INDIE MUSIC SCENE & THE ARTISTS WHO MAKE IT HAPPEN
The Discarded is a family rock band from Orangeville, a small town north of Toronto, Canada. The band comprises drummer Caden Jax Wasson, his brother Jared Dean Wasson on bass, and their father, veteran rocker J.P. (Joel) Wasson, on guitar and vocals. Throughout the '90s, J.P. played in seminal bands like Fifth Column (drums) and Snow Dogs (drums and lead vocals). Although they are all related, their sound quickly tells you this is no Partridge Family. The two brothers started playing in the band when they were just 13 and 17 years old. After countless rehearsals and live shows, the band has developed into a tightly-knit, hard-rocking unit that thrives on creating original, creative, well-crafted music.
Since their formation in 2016, The Discarded has recorded and released five albums and one EP, with a sixth album already completed and set to release in 2024. They have played nearly 100 live shows and several tours in southern Ontario, opening for The Sonics at Toronto’s Danforth Music Hall, Teenage Head, and The Forgotten Rebels in Hamilton. They have also supported Lowest of the Low on tour and opened for Rusty’s 2019 album release. Their albums have received airplay on college and online radio.
The Discarded’s self-titled debut album, ‘The Discarded,’ their second album, ‘Manifesto,’ and their EP, ‘Not From This Town,’ along with their 2019 album, ‘Sound Check and Fury,’ were produced, engineered, and mixed by Ian Blurton (Change of Heart, Future Now) at his Pro Gold Studio. Their latest album, ‘The Getgoes,’ was produced, engineered, and mixed by Juno winner John Critchley at his Green Door Studio. Critchley also mixed their 2021 album, ‘Live Pandemic Sessions,’ which was recorded live off the floor at Sessions on The River in Fort Erie and released with an accompanying video. All The Discarded's albums were mastered by Grammy-nominee Joao Carvalho, with artwork/photography by Rick McGinnis and design by illustrator Racheal Muir. Their latest releases include the single/video ‘Thoughts and Prayers’ and the full-length album, the soundtrack for the animated film The Getgoes.
